GPT-5.6 (Generative Pre-trained Transformer 5.6) is a large language model (LLM) publicly released by OpenAI on July 9, 2026. It was initially made available as a limited preview on June 26, 2026. It was released alongside GPT Live 1, formerly GPT-Bidi 1.

GPT-5.6 comes in three versions, from least to most capable: Luna, Terra and Sol.

GPT-5.6 includes models named Sol, Terra, and Luna. Sol (88.8%) and Sol Ultra (91.9%) beat Claude Mythos 5 (88.0%) at TerminalBench 2.1, while Luna (82.5%) beat Claude Opus 4.8 (78.9%) although was below GPT-5.5 (83.4%), and Terra (84.3%) beat its own predecessor. Terra is competitive with GPT-5.5 while being half the cost.[non-primary source needed]
