Hayat Al-Fahad (Gulf Arabic: حياة الفهد, romanized:Ḥayāt il-Fahad, Gulf Arabic pronunciation: [ħəyäːt‿ɪlfəhəd]; 15 April 1948 – 21 April 2026) was a Kuwaiti actress, broadcaster, writer and producer best known for her Kuwaiti plays and the pop culture TV shows Khalti Qumasha, Ruqiya wa Sabika, Jarh Al Zaman, 'ndama Tu'Gany Al Zuhor.

Early life and death

Hayat Al-Fahad was born on 15 April 1948 in Sharq, Kuwait. At the age of five, she moved with her family to the Al-Mirqab area, where they lived near the Abdullah Al-Mubarak Mosque. She was raised as an orphan following the death of her father and experienced a difficult upbringing due to her mother’s strict treatment.

Al-Fahad did not complete her primary education but later taught herself to read and write, becoming proficient in both Classical Arabic and English. In the early 1950s, she developed an interest in the arts after watching a film starring the Egyptian singer and actor Farid al-Atrash. She subsequently began attending cinema screenings with her family, which became a regular pastime. She has three siblings: an older sister, Sharifa; a younger sister, Ghanima; and one brother.

She died on 21 April 2026, at the age of 78, following a prolonged illness.

Controversy

On 25 April 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic, Hayat Al-Fahad publicly called for the deportation of expatriates from Kuwait on a local television channel. Her comments caused an uproar on social media, with various individuals criticizing her for her comments.
