Sreeleela (born June 14, 2001) is an American actress of Indian origin who primarily works in Telugu cinema. She began her career as a child artist before making her lead debut in the 2019 Kannada film Kiss. Sreeleela expanded into Telugu cinema with Pelli SandaD (2021) and gained wider recognition through her roles in Dhamaka (2022), Bhagavanth Kesari (2023), and Guntur Kaaram (2024). She has won three South Indian International Movie Awards. Outside of acting, she is a qualified medical doctor.
Early life and education
Sreeleela was born on June 14, 2001, into a Telugu family in Detroit, Michigan, U.S., and was raised in Bengaluru, India. Her maternal grandparents are from Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, a city she frequently visited during her childhood. Her mother, Swarnalatha, is a gynaecologist based in Bengaluru. Swarnalatha was previously married to industrialist Surapaneni Subhakara Rao, but the couple separated prior to Sreeleela's birth. Following her film debut, Rao publicly stated that Sreeleela was not his biological daughter, noting the timeline of their separation. Swarnalatha has not publicly commented on the identity of Sreeleela's father.
Sreeleela began training in Bharatanatyam during her childhood. Alongside her early acting roles, she pursued medical education and graduated with a MBBS degree from the D. Y. Patil School of Medicine in Navi Mumbai in 2026, qualifying as a medical doctor.
Career
Early work (2017–2020)
Sreeleela made her acting debut in the 2017 Telugu film Chitrangada, portraying the younger version of Sindhu Tolani's character. Director A. P. Arjun discovered her photographs on social media—captured by cinematographer Bhuvan Gowda—and subsequently cast her in the lead role for his 2019 film, Kiss. Sreeleela stated that she chose to launch her career in Kannada-language films because she was raised in Bengaluru, despite having existing professional contacts within the Telugu industry.
Filming for Kiss commenced in 2017 while she was in the first year of her pre-university course. The film released in 2019 and performed well at the box office. Critics A. Sharadhaa of The New Indian Express and Vinay Lokesh of The Times of India both praised her confident debut and stylish screen presence. A month later, her second film, Bharaate, opposite Sriimurali, was released. Reviewing the film for The News Minute, Aravind Shwetha commended her ability to hold her own alongside Sriimurali.
Breakthrough and career expansions (2021–present)

In 2021, Sreeleela played the female lead in the romantic musical film Pelli SandaD, marking her debut in Telugu cinema. Although the film received generally negative reviews, her acting was well-received. Y. Sunita Chowdhary of The Hindu called the film a "costly showreel" for the lead pair, opining that Sreeleela and co-star Roshan Meka appeared fresh but lacked romantic chemistry.
In 2022, she featured in the Kannada romantic comedy By Two Love; reviewers noted her strong screen presence, though a critic from Deccan Herald remarked that her Kannada diction had room for improvement. She subsequently made a special appearance in the musical number "Trademark" from the action drama James. Following the visibility of her early roles, she transitioned fully into larger Telugu productions, appearing alongside Ravi Teja in the action comedy Dhamaka (2022), a major box-office success.
In 2023, Sreeleela experienced fluctuating critical and commercial reception. She was cast alongside Ram Pothineni in the action film Skanda, which underperformed financially. However, her subsequent project, Bhagavanth Kesari, directed by Anil Ravipudi and co-starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, became one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of 2023. Her portrayal of a resilient young woman earned her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress – Telugu. Later that year, she appeared in the action comedy Aadikeshava and the romantic comedy Extra Ordinary Man, both of which encountered low box office returns.
In 2024, Sreeleela played the female lead opposite Mahesh Babu in the action drama Guntur Kaaram. Neeshita Nyayapati of Hindustan Times observed that while she "dances like a dream, her character could have had some bearing on the story." Despite the film's polarizing reception, her choreography in the song "Kurchi Madathapetti" achieved significant digital popularity. Her profile as a dancer led to a featured appearance in the musical number "Kissik" alongside Allu Arjun in Pushpa 2: The Rule (2024).
In 2025, Sreeleela reunited with Nithiin in the action comedy Robinhood. Srivathsan Nadadhur of The Hindu remarked that her role was limited to "a fashion parade." She followed this with the bilingual film Junior; critics found her energetic in dance sequences but emotionally detached from the central plot.
Media image and artistry
Sreeleela is among the highest-paid actresses in Telugu cinema. Media reports frequently highlight her energetic screen presence and dancing abilities, which have become major commercial draws for her films. Her choreography in musical numbers such as "Kurchi Madathapetti" from Guntur Kaaram and "Kissik" from Pushpa 2: The Rule gained widespread digital popularity, expanding her pan-Indian recognition.
The press has noted her discipline in balancing an active film career with medical training, ultimately graduating as a doctor in 2026. In addition to acting, Sreeleela is a celebrity endorser and serves as the brand ambassador for national brands, including Santoor Shower Gels and Birla Opus Paints.
Personal life
In February 2022, Sreeleela adopted two children with disabilities. In April 2025, she adopted a third child. In an interview, she clarified that the children do not reside directly with her due to her extensive filming schedules, but she fully funds their healthcare, education, and living expenses within their residential facility.
